| 007. Graffiti |
[11 Apr 2010|08:20pm] |
Whoever thought the graffiti in the boy's loo was clever or funny, you were mistaken. This falls under the classification of a hate crime and the consequences are high. Turn yourself in now and I'll personally speak to the Headmaster about moderating those consequences. You will be found out eventually. Do yourself a favour and make this easier on yourself.
Students: please remain calm and know that you are safer at Hogwarts than you would be almost anywhere in the wizarding world. And, If you have any information on the persn responsible for this prank, please come forward.

| 006. The Dark Mark |
[09 Apr 2010|11:52am] |
|
Hearing about the Creeveys is eerie and discomfiting. It's too much like something out of the past. The best this can be is an isolated incident. We must hope it is one lunatic who knows too much for their own good. I hope the students don't underestimate the meaning of this, but at the same time, they would do well to continue with their lives. We are safe here at the Castle.

| 005. Predestination |
[31 Mar 2010|12:23am] |
Sometimes I wonder whether we do have predetermined roles in our world. The problem with predestination is that it implies a predestinator, and my thoughts have long been torn on the subject of God. There is such suffering in the world that I would very much like there to not be a God. If there is one, he has much to answer for. That being said, there have been certain gifts in my life that have made me feel as though I should thank someone, and who, if not a God?
The tough part is-- it's difficult to go through the world with your eyes open and not see a mechanism in it. Could I have entered any Hogwarts class and gone into any Hogwarts house and found what I found in Gryffindor in my year? I honestly cannot imagine that anyone has such loyal friends. It does not escape me that they had what I needed at a time when I needed it most. Does coincidence work miracles?
What if it does? What if it's a matter of pure coincidence? Then, by thinking I have some greater role to play in society, I'm really just giving myself a false sense of importance. What if I've played out my role? What if my role was to teach one person one thing and the rest has been gratuitous shite? What if I had no role at all? What if I'm not a harbinger of some new era. What if I am just someone who has had an instance of exceptionally bad luck followed by some exceptionally good luck?
This doesn't even make sense. Proof that I shouldn't think about things this late at night. Really, it's past my bedtime.

| 004. Dance |
[23 Mar 2010|10:39pm] |
|
I think this dance is an excellent idea. Youth and romance do tend to go hand in hand, don't they. I would just like to know whether the chaperones are expected to have dates, and whether I should be considering who I might ask. Every once in a great while I am thrilled not to be sixteen again.

| 003. Thursday Lessons |
[19 Mar 2010|02:53am] |
Now you've done your moon charts, you know tomorrow is the full moon. All term, we will refrain from holding class on the full moon. The reason for this is that the light of the moon is so bright it prevents us from properly observing the stars. In addition, viewing the full moon through a telescope is so bright that it can be painful-- or so I'm told, I can admit that I've not done it myself. And neither shall you. You are expected to know the dates of the full moons without being reminded, and to not come to class on those days. Should you forget to check, you will sadly find the astronomy tower locked. Yes, locked. That is to guard against you older students who think it might be an excellent time and location to advance your more amorous goals. Don't forget for a minute that I was a student here at one time as well. You will not have any additional coursework on full moons. Consider it my gift to you. It gives your extra time to study the material we have already covered, so I expect you to come back prepared to start right where we left off.
Any questions?

Students, recall that you are NOT to bring your telescopes on the first day of class. We'll be meeting in the classroom to do our moon charts. Your class materials list should have been owled to you, but just in case, you need:
- Telescope (collapsable is fine) - Foundations of Astronomy by Seeks Scutum - Universe of Astronomy Workbook by Hadley Rille. Buy the edition for your year. - Yearly star chart
See you Monday and please let me know by owl or note if you have any questions.
